"The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit"

~Nelson Henderson

In Memoriam - Howard Clifford Sheppard, Sr - 1924 - 2011On January 27, 2011, Howard Sheppard, Inc. mourned the loss of our founder, Howard Clifford Sheppard, Sr. Not only was he the founder, but he presided over this organization with great integrity, strong leadership, and a defined determination to make this company a leader in the industry.

In 1943, a determined and enterprising young man, Mr. Sheppard built this company literally from the ground up, hauling sand and gravel from the land of Washington County where he grew up. In 1950, he married Barbara Holmes, and with her help, the company grew. His devotion to family is incomparable to most and his character is reflected in his family. Mr. Sheppard loved his community and was an extraordinary citizen. He plunged into community affairs with great enthusiasm. He gave freely of his time and was one of the most generous philanthropists in the history of our county. His commitment to God, Family, Community, and Howard Sheppard, Inc. has blessed us all.

Mr. Sheppard was dedicated to this company, its customers and employees. This is evident when considering our loyal and repeat customers. When it comes to his employees, Mr. Sheppard was a personable boss. This company became a second family for many employees and many have spent their entire career here. Family Tradition will continue as his son Cliff serves as current President. His grandsons, Trey and Mitch both play vital roles in different divisions of the company. Mr. Sheppard set the standard on which this company will continue to operate, and one that will make him proud. He will truly be missed and always remembered. We are all sitting under the shade of the many trees planted by Mr. Howard.
